Portsmouth Pro Musica Spring Concert 2017

Portsmouth Pro Musica will perform the beautiful, moving choral work Annelies by James Whitbourn. Annelies is based on the Diary of Anne Frank and includes excerpts from the diary. Even though her story is heartbreaking, the work is so beautiful. It really captures every emotion of the diary you can imagine including the hopefulness and joy of this young girl caught in a terrible world event.

~New Addition~

The Sunday performance will feature a Pre-Concert talk featuring Dr. Diane P. Freedman. Dr. Freedman is a Professor of English and a core faculty member in the Women’s Studies Program at the University of New Hampshire. Her numerous publications and presentations include two authored, one co-authored and four edited books. She has taught courses titled Jewish-American Literature as well as Literary Responses to the Holocaust. Professor Freedman directed an undergraduate honors thesis titled “Jewish Women Holocaust Survivor’s Narratives”. In 2014 she received a Hess Summer Faculty Seminar grant to participate in the program “Literary Responses to the Holocaust” hosted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

This important and moving music is too amazing to miss. Please invite everyone, including any teenagers who may have recently read the Diary!

Attended lecture and concert on Sunday afternoon and was in tears as it ended…BRAVO to all of you and Katie…you were awesome! Having the text on the screen is something I have wanted for last several years as it allows the audience to keep eyes focused on the performance while not missing any part of the message. The diction was incredible, but more quickly received with the screen…what an undertaking…congratulations!
