The Overtones, the a capella musical ambassadors of Portsmouth Pro Musica, will perform their first full-length concert this Sunday, August 23 at 5 p.m. at Trinity Church, 546 York Street, York, Maine.

The concert will mark the return of Portsmouth Pro Musica to the Trinity Church concert series. The full chorus performed there two years ago. Portsmouth Pro Musica is an auditioned chorus of about 60 male and female singers. All nine members of the Overtones also sing with PPM.

Now in their seventh year, the Overtones have performed throughout the seacoast. In addition to various private performances, they have headlined PPM’s Midwinter’s Auction event and have teamed-up with the Gundalow Company for annual summer musical cruises.

The Overtones will present a polished entertaining and musically diverse program that includes, among others, a Cole Porter medley, spirituals, sea chanties, doo wop and the Beach Boys.

Sunday’s concert is one of 15 concert performances in Trinity’s summer series. The Overtones are the fourth a capella group to sing, joining local ensembles that have included Dover’s 4th Street Jass Choir, Poco Amare and the Stairwells.
