We Remember Muffie Hendricks
With great sadness we mourn the passing of a dear friend and lovely singer, Muffie Hendricks, charter member of Portsmouth Women’s Chorus. Muffie, pictured in the photo above in the bottom row left with glasses, was one of the original members of the PWC and contributed greatly to the group for over 25 years. Muffie was a wonderful addition to PWC’s Tour to England in 1998 and continued with us through our transition to a mixed-voice ensemble, Portsmouth Pro Musica, in 2006. We are grateful for her time serving on our Board of Directors, and for her tireless service as Board President. Muffie’s final performance was in our May 2010 “Carmina Burana” concerts.
Even after retiring from the group, she continued to keep in close touch with Priscilla and many of the veteran singers. Muffie brought a joyful and cheerful spirit to our rehearsals and to our lives as a generous, thoughtful friend. She was well-liked by everyone who knew her and maintained her sense of humor and upbeat attitude until the end. Portsmouth Women’s Chorus and Portsmouth Pro Musica are honored to have had her unique and beautiful voice as part of the ensemble, and will be forever grateful for her contributions and her friendship.
Here are three beautiful pieces from our 1998 PWC Tour to England.
Largo (from the New World Symphony)
Mood Indigo
